Diljit Dosanjh and Amar Singh Chamkila left behind in the Emmy awards race

Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila had managed to secure two prestigious nominations at the 53rd International Emmy Awards. Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh was nominated for Best Actor, while the film was nominated in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category. The award ceremony concluded on Monday in New York City, and unfortunately, the film was left behind in both categories, leaving India empty-handed.

Amar Singh Chamkila fails in Best TV Movie category

Imtiaz Ali`s directorial Amar Singh Chamkila was competing in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category with Germany`s Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb, the UK`s Lost Boys and Fairies, and Chile`s Vencer o Morir (Victory or Death). The award was bagged by Lost Boys and Fairies, a British TV drama revolving around a gay couple trying to adopt a child.

Amar Singh Chamkila is a Netflix film, which is the official biopic of the late Punjabi singing sensation of the same name. He was gunned down in the 80s. Singer and actor Diljit played the titular character and received a lot of acclaim for it. On the other hand, Parineeti Chopra played his wife and collaborator, Amarjot Kaur. The film was hailed for its powerful performances, especially that of Diljit, its direction, as well as AR Rahman’s soundtrack.

Diljit Dosanjh loses Best Actor

Apart from the film, Diljit Dosanjh was also nominated at the International Emmy Awards 2025 in the Best Performance by an Actor category. He was competing with David Mitchell for Ludwig, Oriol Pla for Yo, adicto (I, Addict), and Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude in the prestigious race. Spanish actor Oriol Pla walked away with the award for his intense portrayal of a drug addict in recovery.

Diljit Dosanjh and Imtiaz Ali walked the red carpet at the International Emmys earlier on Monday evening. Diljit even greeted photographers with his signature namaste while looking dapper in a cream shimmery coat, white pants and sporting a black turban. Meanwhile, Imtiaz chose a black embroidered suit. The two were accompanied by the Netflix India team, including Vice President, Content, Monika Shergill and Director, Original Films, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh on the red carpet.
