Vaani Kapoor is one of the gorgeous actresses in the industry. The diva began her career with Shuddh Desi Romance and went on to star in some notable films. However, her journey has not been easy. The actress had her fair share of rejections early on in her career and she was also judged on the basis of looks. In a recent interview, Vaani revealed losing out on films for being dusky and too skinny.
Vaani Kapoor on colour bias
In an interview with News18, she recalled, “I haven’t been told directly, but information reaches via other people. A filmmaker had once said that I wasn’t fair enough to land a role. He said that I wasn’t ‘milky white’. I told myself that it is what it is. If that’s a requirement, I don’t want to be a part of his projects. The feelings are completely mutual there.” Giving a befitting reply to such makers, the actress adds, “He can find his ‘milky white beauty’ or his ‘fair and lovely’ woman. I know that I can find a better filmmaker for myself. This happened ages ago. And that filmmaker wasn’t from Mumbai.”
Vaani Kapoor on body shaming
The Shamshera actress further shares how she has been told that she is ‘too skinny’ and been rejected. Vaani shares, “What I hear a lot sometimes is that I’m too skinny and that I should put on some weight because people like women with ‘fuller bodies’. But I like me! I don’t want to change anything about myself. I’m fit and healthy. I usually don’t get bothered by these things. Sometimes, you don’t know if such comments are coming from a place of concern or like a gold advice. But I think I’m pretty okay and I like who I am,” she added.
On the work front, Vaani will next be seen in Mandala Murders which will stream on Netflix. The series also stars Shriya Pilgaonkar, Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Surveen Chawla. Mandala Murders is set in the quaint, mysterious town of Charandaspur, where two detectives unravel a chilling conspiracy of ritualistic killings tied to a centuries-old secret society.
