Netizens draw similarities between Saiyaara and Korean film A Moment to Remember

`Saiyaara`, directed by Mohit Suri and starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, opened in theatres on Friday, July 18. At the box office, the musical romance got off to a strong start. Many moviegoers, however, immediately saw comparisons between “Saiyaara” and the 2004 South Korean film “A Moment to Remember.”

The plot of Suri`s most recent film has drawn criticism for being remarkably similar to the Korean classic, which likewise centres on a couple dealing with the difficulties of early-onset Alzheimer`s.

Netizens claim Saiyaara is a copy of the Korean film `A Moment to Remember`

As one user put it, “So #SAIYAARA is a copy of this KOREAN FILM! (Read the synopsis) Mohit Suri has barely made any original film (sic)”.

Saiyaara” tells the tale of Vaani (Aneet Padda), a quiet, budding journalist, and Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), a fiery singer. After falling in love, Vaani`s diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer`s forces the couple to face an uncertain future, which emotionally changes their relationship.

Likewise, John H. Lee`s `A Moment to Remember` centres on Su-jin (Son Ye-jin) and Chul-soo (Jung Woo-sung), whose bond is put to the test after Su-jin is diagnosed with Alzheimer`s. The film has received a lot of attention for its delicate depiction of love and memory, especially when Chul-soo decides to stick by Su-jin`s side and support her in preserving their shared memories.

Regarding the comparisons and whether “Saiyaara” is an adaptation of “A Moment to Remember,” the film`s creators have not yet released an official declaration. Rohan Shankar wrote the dialogue for the movie, which Sankalp Sadanah penned.

Fans reaction to the comparison

Fans have also been comparing the opening revenue of both films, seeing whether they did equally well at the box office or whether either of them marked a better opening for the viewers. While Saiyaara has created a wave of lovers in theatres currently, fans have been sharing reels of their experiences after watching the film.

`Saiyaara` has garnered praise for its music and performances in spite of the controversy. Mithoon, Sachet–Parampara, Arslan Nizami, Faheem Abdullah, Vishal Mishra, Tanishk Bagchi, and Rishabh Kant all contributed to the music. Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, is producing the movie.
