Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, were taken into custody after a complaint was filed against them by a Udaipur-based doctor, alleging that he was defrauded of crores by the director on the pretext of making a film. The couple had earlier pleaded for bail on medical grounds; however, it was denied. The couple again tried for the same, and as per reports, their bail application has been rejected for the second time.
Vikram Bhatt’s wife Shwetambari denied bail in fraud case
As per reports in Bollywood Hungama, in a major development in the Rs 30-crore fraud case involving filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, a court in Udaipur on December 24 rejected the bail applications of Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt. This marks the second time that the court has turned down their plea for bail, citing the need for further investigation in the matter.
According to court observations, the probe is still at a crucial stage, with the possibility of more arrests and interrogations. Given the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing investigation, the court held that granting bail at this juncture would not be appropriate.
About the fraud case
An FIR for a Rs 30-crore fraud was registered in Udaipur about 20 days earlier against eight people, including Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari Bhatt. The complaint claimed that the couple had lured Dr Murdia with a promise of Rs 200-crore earnings. The investigation is currently being handled by the Bhopalpura police.
The couple was taken into custody from their Mumbai residence on December 7, following which they were taken to Udaipur.
Vikram Bhatt responded to the FIR, saying that the police are being misled. The filmmaker told ANI, “I came to know today that there has been an FIR. I think it came on a TV channel in Rajasthan that there has been an FIR against me. And then a journalist friend of mine sent me an FIR. So I read the entire FIR. Now, to be honest, I feel that the Rajasthan Police is being misled. As far as my question is concerned, I don’t know. I have been told that there is NC first. I have not received anything like that. So first, I thought it would be NC. But now I have come to know that it is an FIR.”
