Rajpal Yadav was recently mired in controversy after he was sent to Tihar Jail in an Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. While he was in custody, several celebs and filmmakers, including Priyadarshan and Sonu Sood, extended their support. When the actor was unable to pay his debt, Sood wrote a long note urging the industry to give him work. Now, Yadav has reacted to it, stating that he has enough work and that the note was based on a misconception.
Rajpal Yadav on Sonu Sood’s remark
In an interview with SCREEN, Rajpal Yadav was asked about Sonu Sood’s comment about offering him work during his difficult time. He said, “Please get over the misconception that I need to keep asking for work. And there is no shame in asking for work. I live through my job; cinema is my passion, and I work in such a way that I get four times more work. I work even on vacations. Work doesn’t find me; it has lived with me for the last 11 years.”
Taking to his social media, Sonu Sood extended support to Yadav when he was sentenced to jail, stating that he was unable to repay the loan. He wrote, “Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us — producers, directors, colleagues — to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity; it’s dignity. When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.”
For the unaware, Rajpal Yadav surrendered to the police after the Delhi High Court directed him to do so in connection with multiple cheque bounce cases. Yadav, who had taken a loan to make his film Ata Pata Laapata in 2010, was unable to repay it. He was later granted bail.
