Lyricist refuses writing Nora Fatehi`s controversial song Sarke Chunar

Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt`s latest song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the Kannada film KD – The Devil, is facing massive backlash. The song has been heavily criticised online for its vulgar lyrics and suggestive choreography. A complaint has also been filed urging its removal from all digital platforms, following which it was taken down by the makers. Now, lyricist Raqeeb Alam, who has been credited for the song, has broken his silence on the matter.

Sarke Chunar lyricist reacts to the song`s lyrics

Lyricist Raqeeb Alam told Hindustan Times, “Yeh lyrics maine nahi likhe hain, they were written by the film’s director, Prem in Kannada. When I was asked to write all this, I refused, saying such songs won’t work and will be censored too. They told me to only literally translate the Kannada version and give it to them, they will set it to the song’s meter. Words like ‘Choosega’, ‘chaatega’ are all there in the original version only.”

“Last mein jaake batate hain that the entire song is about an alcohol bottle. Lekin usse pehle sab kuchh itna ganda hai. Maine mana kiya tha. Mujhe kya zaroorat hai aise gaane likhne ki? When I write good songs, people don’t notice. I have written Chikri Chikri in Hindi for Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi. All the songs of Pushpa in Hindi were written by me. I am feeling humiliated myself because of Sarke Chunar,” he added.

Controversy surrounding the song

As Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi`s recently released track Sarke Chunar from KD – The Devil faces a lot of backlash for its objectionable lyrics and suggestive choreography, the makers have taken down the song from YouTube.

Now, in the latest update, IANS has learned that the makers are working on a new version of the track, with new lyrics, which is expected to reach the audience shortly.

While further details regarding when the new version of Sarke Chunar will be released is unknown for now, the decision has been taken keeping in view the ongoing controversy surrounding the song.

Recently, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice over the alleged use of objectionable and double-meaning lyrics in “Sarke Chunar”.

Additionally, advocate and social activist Vineet Jindal also filed a complaint with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police, asking for legal action against the makers of the track.

He alleged in the complaint that the track has obscene lyrics not suitable for public consumption, especially given the fact that the track is available on various digital platforms. After the song reached the audience, it was subjected to a lot of criticism, with many terming the lyrics as vulgar and inappropriate.
