Delhi: Man kills wife using LPG cylinder in presence of 18-month-old child, held

A woman was allegedly murdered by her husband following a domestic dispute in South Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur area on Sunday night, officials said, reported the IANS.

According to police, the accused, identified as Suresh, allegedly struck his wife, Poonam, on the head with a small LPG cylinder, leading to her death on the spot. The incident took place at around 9:30 pm on March 29, the news agency reported.

Delhi Police said the accused was arrested from the spot shortly after the incident. The couple had reportedly moved into a DDA housing complex just a month ago.

They have two children. One child lives with their grandmother, while their 18-month-old baby was present in the house at the time of the incident.

Neighbours raise alarm

The neighbours said that they rushed to the house after hearing the woman’s screams. The door was locked from inside and had to be forced open with the help of the landlord, according to the IANS.

Inside, Poonam was found lying on the floor with severe injuries, while the accused was sitting nearby holding the infant. A gas cylinder was also found at the scene.

A neighbour claimed that the accused may have acted out of suspicion, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.

Motive under investigation

Police suspect that the crime may have been triggered by domestic tensions and extreme suspicion. However, officials said a detailed investigation is underway to determine whether the act was premeditated, as per the IANS.

Forensic teams have been deployed, and evidence from the scene is being examined.

This incident is among several recent cases of domestic violence reported in the National Capital Region.

Earlier this month, a man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and three children in a separate case in Delhi. Investigations into that incident are still ongoing.

Man stabs wife to death in Mumbai`s Malad

Meanwhile, in an another incident earlier this month, a domestic dispute turned fatal in Malwani after a man allegedly attacked his wife with a kitchen knife, leading to her death and injuring two of her relatives who tried to intervene. 

The incident occurred during the late hours of March 15 at around 10.30 pm in the Malwani Gate No. 7 area, New Collector Compound, in Malad West.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Sabir Ansari (44), allegedly arrived at his wife’s parental home and began arguing with family members. During the altercation, he allegedly assaulted them and asked his wife, Afsana Ansari, to return home with him.

Police officials, while briefing about the incident, said that when Afsana refused and reportedly told him that he did not provide money to run the household, the argument escalated. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and attacked her.

When Afsana’s brother, Faim Ahmed Abdul Rahim Ansari (40), and niece Sabina tried to rescue her, the accused allegedly stabbed them as well, injuring them in the back and knee, respectively.

Hearing the commotion, relatives and local residents rushed to the spot and took the injured to Shatabdi Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment. During treatment, doctors declared Afsana Ansari dead.
