Madras HC rejects plea to stop screening of Dhurandhar 2 during TN polls

A Bench consisting of Chief Justice SA Darmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan declined to grant any relief and dismissed the plea at the admission stage itself. Notably, the petition was filed by a Madurai resident and sought an ad-interim direction to restrain the exhibition of Ranveer Singh`s film Dhurandhar 2 in Tamil Nadu across all platforms, including theatres and OTT, until the election results are declared.

The petitioner argued that the continued screening of the film during the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) period would reportedly violate the principle of a “level playing field” in elections. The petitioner also argued that the film`s screening could potentially influence voters.

The petition contended that allowing the film’s release and exhibition during the sensitive period, like the election, would be contrary to the spirit of free and fair elections.

However, the Court was not inclined to intervene in the matter and thus dismissed the petition on Friday, April 10..
