Nagpur engineer dies after falling from train in UP

A 40-year-old civil engineer from Maharashtra died after reportedly falling from a moving train while travelling with his wife and daughter during a religious trip.

The incident took place on the Mathura-Chhapra Express while the family was travelling from Mathura to Gorakhpur, the officials said.

The engineer, identified as Sunil Baboolal Yadav from Maharashtra`s Nagpur, was later found injured beside the railway track in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district, police said.

According to officials, Sunil Yadav had travelled with his wife Reena Yadav and daughter to Mathura for religious visits. After completing their visit, the family boarded the train to proceed towards Gorakhpur, from where they were planning to travel to Nepal.

He was travelling in the first AC coach of the train when the incident took place.

Suspected fall near railway stretch

Police said the incident is believed to have taken place early Tuesday morning near the Nawadiya area under the Fatehgarh region.

Around 7:30 am, police found the man lying near the railway track close to a temple area. He was immediately taken to Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, said the officials, adding that the injuries were found on his head and body.

“The incident came to light after the wife reached Kanpur and realised that her husband was missing from the train. When she called his mobile phone around 9 am, police responded and informed her about the death,” officials said.

They said that she later reached the post-mortem house along with her daughter in the afternoon. The family members told police that the deceased suffered from partial paralysis on one side of his body.

His wife said he had reportedly got up around 6 am to go to the washroom, and it is suspected that he may have fallen while moving towards the train door. However, investigations in the matter were underway, said the police.

Probe launched

Police said that initial examination suggested injuries on multiple parts of the body, including the head.

The body has been sent to Maharashtra by ambulance after post-mortem.

Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the fall.
