Six killed, 26 injured in multi-vehicle crash on Mumbai-Agra Highway

A horrific chain collision on the Mumbai-Agra Highway in Maharashtra’s Dhule district claimed six lives and left at least 26 others injured early Monday after a speeding passenger bus rammed into vehicles already damaged in an earlier crash during ongoing rescue efforts, officials said.

Accident occurred at Laling Ghat

The incident took place at Laling Ghat in Dhule during the early hours of Monday, reported IANS.

According to officials, the accident began when a dumper truck collided with a truck on the highway.

Speeding bus crashes into wrecked vehicles

Following the initial collision, toll plaza employees and local residents rushed to the spot to rescue the injured.

However, during the rescue operation, a speeding passenger bus travelling from Madhya Pradesh allegedly lost control and rammed violently into the already damaged vehicles.

Officials said the second collision was extremely severe and claimed the life of a toll employee who was assisting in rescue efforts.

“In this tragic incident, a total of six people, including the toll employee, lost their lives, while 26 others sustained injuries,” an official said, according to IANS. 

Injured shifted to district hospital

After receiving information about the accident, police and rescue teams rushed to the scene.

All the injured persons were rescued and immediately shifted to the District Hospital for treatment, officials said, reported IANS. 

Traffic movement on the Mumbai-Agra Highway was disrupted for some time following the accident.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, while further details are awaited.

Eight killed after SUV falls into gorge in Raigad

In a separate incident, eight people were killed after an SUV plunged into a deep gorge in Maharashtra’s Raigad district earlier in the day, officials said.

So far, rescue teams have recovered two bodies, which have been sent for post-mortem examination. Search operations for the remaining bodies are still underway.

Officials said rescue teams are facing difficulties due to the depth of the gorge and challenging terrain.

The deceased have been identified as Ritesh Lokhande (22), Suhas Lokhande (20), Utkarsh Shingte (21), Nikhil Shingte (25), Mahesh Pawar (25), Aditya Salunkhe (21), Rajesh Katkar (35), all residents of Satara district, and Ansh Chavan (19), a resident of Ratnagiri district.
