Actress Aditi Govitrikar recently appeared in Kuku TV’s microdrama Mr Alimony. The show revolves around a man who sues to uncover the truth behind a series of accusations. The actress plays a formidable lawyer in series. While Aditi calls the show refreshing, she also believes microdramas are here to stay. In an exclusive chat with mid-day, she opens up about Mismatched Season 4, ageism in the industry, and her Mrs World days.
Aditi on microdramas
Aditi Govitrikar believes microdramas are here to stay, thanks to their short format and the growing dominance of mobile viewing. “I think microdrama is here to stay because it’s pretty short, keeping the phone screen in mind. And because everyone has phones, the penetration is much higher,” she says.
She also reflected on how the industry’s changing landscape, especially with the rise of OTT, has transformed the way women are approached and offered opportunities. Speaking about ageism in the entertainment industry, Aditi Govitrikar said, “On the big screen, a heroine is always of a certain age. Once that age is crossed, unlike heroes, who can continue playing lead roles even in their 60s, women are usually offered the roles of a mother or an aunty. But on OTT, the times have changed.”
On competition with Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta
Aditi was the first Indian woman to win the Mrs World title in 2001. She shared the pageant stage with Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta. Reflecting on sharing the pageant stage with the two, Aditi Govitrikar said there was never a sense of competition between them, as each had a unique journey.
“Each one of us got a separate crown and we had our own journey that we traversed. One very different thing for me was that I was already married and I had a child. Therefore, in the industry and in modelling, I was looked at very differently. Fortunately for me, I was already a known name. I didn’t have any insecurity because I knew this was not my primary career. I had studied counselling and had a career to fall back on,” she said.
For those unversed, Aditi is also a psychologist.
Aditi on objectification in the South industry
Aditi Govitrikar started her acting career with Pawan Kalyan’s Thammudu before featuring in several Bollywood films like De Dana Dan, Paheli, and Bheja Fry 2, among others.
Speaking about the portrayal of women in the South industry, she said, “Even today, some songs and the way they are shot objectify women.” However, she believes things have improved. “Earlier, women were often treated only as sex symbols. Now, there are far more meaningful and meaty roles for them,” she added.
The actress also opened up about Mismatched concluding with its fourth season. “I’m sad. This was a great opportunity that I got, but I’m also super excited. Playing Rohit Saraf’s mom was amazing, and Prajakta Koli is a great co-star to work with,” she shares.
