Sonnalli Seygall reacts to actresses taking up romantic roles post motherhood

Actress Sonnalli Seygall is all set to make a comeback on the big screen two years after welcoming her first child with husband Ashesh Sajnani. The actress, who gave birth to a baby girl in November 2024, returns to the screens with Aryabhatt Ka Zero, co-starring Himansh Kohli. During a candid conversation with mid-day, Sonnalli opened up about how motherhood has changed her priorities when it comes to selecting projects.

Sonnalli Seygall on choosing scripts

Revealing her process of selecting scripts, Sonnalli says, “Fortunately, that came at a very early point in my life. After Pyaar Ka Punchnama, I would still be swayed, because at that time there wasn’t much work. So, whatever script came, I would probably say yes to. It’s a different story that my next film was Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2. But after Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, I had this sense very early on of the kind of work I don’t want to do.”

She goes on to add, “I probably didn’t know what to do, but I had that sense a long time ago about what not to do. And that’s precisely why I said no to a lot of projects, which probably at that time would have given me more money, but I was very sure. I have always chosen films which, even if I look back after many years, I don’t regret what I’ve done.  So, I’m proud of my trajectory.”

Sonnalli Seygall on how her priorities have changed post motherhood

We asked the actress about the ongoing conversations about actresses and new mothers doing romantic or intimate roles and if that has affected her. “Post-motherhood, I think for me it’s been the same. I think post-motherhood, the only thing which will make me choose a project more is the number of days, or the flexibility of hours, to be very honest. And that’s why it’s been a conscious decision not to resume or to not start any major projects, which require a lot of my time, attention, physical, mental, everything. It’s just not the days; it’s also the mental load that your mind is somewhere.”

Opening up about her break, she shared, “So, for two years I wanted to take a break. I’m going to start now, and I think that will be a deciding factor whether I can take my baby close to me, can she be around? How can I feel? There are a lot of factors. Otherwise, to choose a script, my inner compass has been quite decent in that regard.”
