About the Jharkhand student protests
The student protesters in Jharkhand have been staging an indefinite sit-in at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium since July 29. They have been demanding cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Combined Preliminary Test held on April 19 along with an independent probe by central agencies, including the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED), into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the JPSC and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
On Monday, August 10, the protestors organised a massive ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march to protest against alleged paper leaks and systemic irregularities. According to ANI, protestors marching towards the Jharkhand Assembly remained resistant after police used lathi charge for the third time on Monday evening to disperse protesters. The demonstrators said they would continue their protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations while demanding a CBI probe.
Authorities reportedly used tear gas shells, water cannons and lathi charges as protesters attempted to move towards the Assembly.
Previously, actor-lyricist Piyush Mishra also visited the JPSC-JSSC student protest site in Ranchi to extend his support to the aspirants. He even questioned the entertainment industry’s silence on the matter.
