The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Saturday, October 17, 2026, demolished parts of Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn’s bungalow in Mumbai’s Juhu area. The civic body cited unauthorised construction as the reason for taking the extreme step.
BMC demolishes part of Ajay Devgn’s bunglow
Notably, the action was taken after the civic body had earlier issued a notice on September 10, 2026. The BMC had directed the actors that the construction work must be stopped immediately and the necessary documents along with permissions be submitted.
According to the civic body, the alleged unauthorised construction work at the bungalow included internal alterations, partition walls, windows and other activities that were allegedly being carried out without the required approvals from the respective authorities.
The civic body stated that it proceeded with the demolition of certain portions of the property when the work allegedly continued despite the notice issued under Section 354A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. The BMC’s action came after alleged violations of construction rules at the actor’s Juhu property. The civic body had earlier directed those responsible to stop the work and submit the relevant permissions and documents.
The notice was sent after a complaint was filed by the Kapole Co-operative Housing Society. They objected to the property being leased for commercial use. Similarly, residents had raised concerns about increased customer movement, parking, security and noise on the society’s narrow internal roads due to the same.
Local corporator Sudha Singh stated that the BMC’s Building and Factory Department had found that the necessary permission for the proposed commercial use of the bunglow had not been produced. Subsequently, the civic body sought the relevant documents from the owners and issued the stop-work notice. The Devgn family had reportedly sought four weeks to respond.
