Theatre has held a special place for Ali Fazal, who used to perform frequently at Prithvi Theatre before films came calling. Now, the actor is stepping into a new role on stage — he will present the play, Mahanagar Jugnu, written and directed by playwright Amitosh Nagpal. The production, starring Neha Saraf and Swanandi Tikekar, will be staged today as part of the ongoing Le’ Chakallas Festival in Malad, Mumbai.

For Fazal, who has always been part of plays in the capacity of an actor, being a presenter is both a novel experience and an honour. “Theatre has always been my first love. It’s where I learned to listen, to observe, and to truly inhabit a character. Turning presenter for Mahanagar Jugnu feels like coming full circle. Amitosh has written something that is deeply intimate yet universally resonant. Le’ Chakallas, with its spirit of rebellion and community, is the perfect home for a story like this,” said the actor.

Le’ Chakallas, which kicked off on February 25, features an eclectic mix of theatre performances, poetry, storytelling, rap battles, and artisan markets. “Every corner becomes a site for collaboration, discovery, and dialogue. An array of unique performances and workshops will be part of the schedule,” said Fazal, proud to lend his support to a new cultural festival in Mumbai. Danish Husain’s dastangoi and a stand-up comedy special by Varun Grover are also part of the line-up.
