A first information report (FIR) has been registered against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), event management firm DNA entertainment networks, Karnataka State Cricket Association and others in connection with Wednesday’s stampede near Chinnaswamy stadium that claimed the lives of 11 people, police said on Thursday.
The case was registered at Cubbon Park Police Station under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by using dangerous weapons or means), 190 (liability of members of an unlawful assembly for offences committed in pursuit of a common object), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duty), 125(12) (acts endangering life or personal safety of others), 142 (unlawful assembly) and 121 (abetment of an offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Earlier in the day, G Jagadeesha, the Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner, who is probing the stampede incident, said that he will issue a notice to the Karnataka Cricket Board, Royal Challengers Bengaluru management, and others.
Jagadeesha inspected the incident site near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, along with his officials.
Speaking to the media, he said, “I will issue notice to KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association), RCB, Event Manager, Police Commissioner…I will issue a notice to RCB management.”
Meanwhile, the RCB in an official statement expressed profound grief and pledged immediate financial assistance to the families of the victims.
“The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday caused a lot of anguish and pain for the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident,” the statement read.
The franchise has also set up a dedicated relief initiative named `RCB Cares`, aimed at extending medical and financial aid to the 56 people injured in the Bengaluru stampede incident.
“Our fans have always been the heartbeat of RCB. We remain united in grief,” the franchise said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday during the RCB’s Indian Premier League (IPL) victory celebrations near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, when thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of their favourite players.
