Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede: Police complaint filed against Virat Kohli

A complaint was filed with the Cubbon Park police station in Bengaluru on Friday against Indian cricketer and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Virat Kohli in connection with the stampede incident outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed the lives of 11 people and injured another 56. Police, however, said that no FIR has yet been registered on the complaint. 

Meanwhile, four officials of the RCB and event management firm DNA Entertainment Private Limited, identified as Nikhil Sosale, Head of Marketing and Revenue of RCB, Sunil Mathew, and Kiran Kumar from DNA Entertainment Private Limited, were arrested and have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody. “Our teams are taking up the case very seriously, and ultimately, the case has to go to CID. So, before going to CID, whatever legal formalities have to be done by our team, they are doing it,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said.

KSCA moves HC 

The Karnataka High Court on Friday, in an interim order, directed the state police not to take any coercive action against the office bearers of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in connection with the stampede incident, until further orders.  KSCA President Raghuram Bhat, Secretary A Shankar, and Treasurer E S Jayaram approached the high court seeking to quash the FIR filed against them.

ADGP transferred

The Karnataka government on Friday transferred Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Intelligence, Hemant Nimbalkar, official sources said. The decision came a day after Siddaramaiah suspended Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda and four other senior police officials.

CM sacks secretary 

MLC K Govindaraj has been relieved from the post of political secretary to the Karnataka Chief Minister with immediate effect, the government said on Friday. 
“The appointment of K Govindaraj as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister is hereby revoked with immediate effect. Accordingly, K Govindaraj is hereby relieved from the post of Political Secretary to the CM with immediate effect,” an official notification said.
