A technical committee of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has opposed the deregulation cell’s proposal to remove fire safety provisions from the National Building Code, citing recent fatal fires. While accepting some recommendations, the committee insists fire safety must remain in the code, not as a separate handbook, emphasizing its crucial role in preventing death traps.
