Israel has agreed to finalise Gaza ceasefire: Trump

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (local time) said that Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. Trump cautioned Hamas against rejecting the ceasefire deal, warning that “it will not get better — it will only get worse.”

Qatar and Egypt, who Trump said “worked very hard to help bring Peace”, will deliver the final proposal. Trump also stated that negotiations to end the war would continue during the proposed ceasefire period.

Israeli airstrikes continued across Gaza. On Monday, Israel launched at least 50 aerial strikes, with a significant focus on eastern Gaza City, following forced evacuation warnings issued by the Israeli military, according to Al Jazeera. Meanwhile, Hamas suggested on Wednesday that it was open to a ceasefire agreement with Israel, but stopped short of accepting a US-backed proposal.

Hamas’s response, which emphasised its demand that the war end, raised questions about whether the latest offer could materialise into an actual pause in fighting. Hamas official Taher al-Nunu said that the militant group was “ready to accept any initiative that clearly leads to the complete end to the war.” A Hamas delegation was expected to meet with Egyptian and Qatari mediators in Cairo on Wednesday to discuss the proposal.
