Kolkata rape: Was ‘Mango’ Mishra hired despite violent history?

The Kolkata Police are examining the minutes of governing body meetings at South Calcutta Law College (New Campus) in the investigation into the alleged rape of a law student on June 25 within college premises.

Sources say officials are checking whether prior complaints of misconduct or sexual harassment against prime accused Monojit Mishra were ever raised during these meetings.

Mishra, a former student and recently appointed contractual staffer, is accused of the assault along with two others — Jaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay.

Investigators have seized the college’s meeting records, attendance registers, and Mishra’s appointment documents.

Despite multiple complaints of violence and harassment, Mishra was reportedly hired just months before the incident.

The case has been transferred to the Kolkata Police’s Detective Department, which has added charges of abduction and assault with weapons to the original rape FIR.
