Maharashtra: Four killed as car hits divider on Samruddhi Expressway

Four individuals, including two women, were fatalities in a vehicular collision with a divider on the Samruddhi Expressway in Washim district, Maharashtra, as reported by an official on Friday.

The incident transpired approximately at 8 pm on Thursday, between Wanoja and Karanja, along the high-speed corridor, he stated, reported news agency PTI. 

A family of five from Umred in Nagpur district was returning by automobile after attending a function in Pune. Near channel number 215, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the crash into the divider, according to an officer from the Mangrulpir police station.

Among the occupants, Madhuri Jaiswal and Vaidehi Jaiswal were pronounced dead at the scene, whereas Sangeeta and Radheshyam Jaiswal succumbed to their injuries subsequently in a hospital, the official added, reported news agency PTI. 

The person driving the car suffered injuries and is being treated in a hospital in Washim, he added. 

Five injured in accident involving car in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

At least five people were injured—two of them seriously—after a speeding car rammed into pedestrians in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Friday morning, an official confirmed. The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. near the well-known Kala Ganpati temple located in the CIDCO area of the city.

According to preliminary information, the accident took place on a service road adjacent to the temple, a stretch often bustling with morning activity. “A car moving along the service lane hit five to six individuals, leaving them injured. All the victims have been rushed to various hospitals across the city for treatment. Among them, two have sustained serious injuries and are undergoing critical care,” the official said, as reported by news agency PTI.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the absconding driver. Initial investigations have revealed that the car belongs to a resident of a nearby housing society. “We are currently scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the driver and understand the exact sequence of events that led to the accident,” a police official stated.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the driver and determine whether any charges of rash driving or negligence will be applied.
