While posting on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said, “Day after tomorrow, 25th July, I will be in the Maldives at the invitation of the President, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. I am honoured to be taking part in the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives.”
PM Modi, while announcing his trip to the Maldives, also expressed his honour and gratitude to the president of the Maldives for being invited to take part in the national celebration, describing the upcoming dialogue with President Muizzu as an opportunity to “add momentum to bilateral ties across diverse sectors.”
The Indian Prime Minister, on his social media post, further added that, “This year we also mark 60 years of India-Maldives diplomatic relations. The talks with President Muizzu will certainly add momentum to bilateral ties across diverse sectors.”
The prime minister’s visit to the Maldives comes at a crucial juncture, following recent rifts between the two nations. Both countries have previously shared a close partnership, especially in areas of maritime security, disaster relief, development assistance, and people-to-people ties.
Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for the United Kingdom. He will be visiting the Maldives on Friday during the first leg of his two-nation visit.
The Prime Minister`s visit to the United Kingdom from July 23 to 24 is aimed at boosting bilateral ties, with the signing of the much-awaited India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as a key highlight.
As reported by PTI, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi will hold wide-ranging discussions with his UK counterpart, Keir Starmer, on the entire gamut of India-UK bilateral relations.
Both delegates will also exchange views on issues of regional and global importance. Over the years, the India-UK historical ties have transformed into a robust, multi-faceted, mutually beneficial relationship.
