Pune: Six workers injured in LPG explosion at Bhosari MIDC unit

Six workers were injured after an LPG-related explosion triggered a fire at an industrial unit in Bhosari MIDC on Saturday. The quick response of the PCMC Fire Brigade prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby factories.

A sudden LPG-linked explosion at Ambika Powder Coating in Bhosari MIDC on Saturday afternoon sparked a fire that left one worker seriously injured and five others with minor burns. The PCMC Fire Brigade reached the site within minutes and quickly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjacent industrial units.

The incident occurred around 3:45 pm, when an unexpected blast inside the unit caused a rapid spread of fire and dense smoke. Fire tenders from Pimpri, Nehrunagar, and Bhosari stations were immediately deployed. Despite the presence of multiple LPG cylinders and intense heat, firefighters evacuated all workers and brought the situation under control.

Around 30 fire personnel, led by Deputy Fire Officers Gautam Ingawale and Dilip Gaikwad, took part in the operation. Preliminary findings suggest that an LPG leak may have caused a vapour cloud explosion. The exact cause is under investigation.

All injured workers were provided first aid and shifted to a nearby hospital for further treatment, fire officials said.

PCMC officials have urged industries to strictly follow fire-safety norms.

Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Kharote said, “Non-compliance with safety standards remains a key cause of such incidents, and there is a need for regular checks and training.”

Fire Officer Rishikant Chipade said timely response helped avert a major disaster.

Authorities have appealed to industrial units to report emergencies immediately by calling 101.
