In an unfortunate incident on Tuesday, two people were killed after a bus belonging to a civic transport utility hit a motorcycle near a tunnel on the outskirts of Pune city. It has also been reported that one person suffered serious injuries, as per the police officials.
As reported by news agency PTI, the incident took place at around 9 am near the old Katraj tunnel when three persons, including a woman, were heading towards Pune on the motorbike, as per the police officials.
One of the police officials from the Ambegaon police station, while emphasising the accident, said that. “The bus of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited, which was also headed towards Pune, hit the motorcycle from behind at a sharp turn. Two motorcycle riders died on the spot, while a woman was seriously injured,” as cited by news agency PTI.
The police further informed that the bus driver was taken into custody after the accident, and the injured woman was rushed to a hospital. With further enquiries underway, the condition of the injured woman is yet to be disclosed.
However, the deceased, identified as Akash Gogawale (29) and Anushka Wadkar (27), and the injured woman were residents of Sasewadi on Pune-Satara Road, as per the police officials.
Drunk driver rams bus into metro pillar in Andheri East
Earlier on Sunday, a bus driver who was under the influence of alcohol rammed the bus into a metro pillar at around 11:00 am. At least eight people were injured after the driver of the private bus allegedly lost control of the vehicle near the MIDC area in Andheri East.
A complaint against the bus driver, identified as Dilipkumar Chavan, 40, was filed at the MIDC police station, and the driver was arrested.
According to the complaint filed by one of the passengers, Vijay Parab, 73, a resident of Mira Road, they had booked a private bus to attend the engagement ceremony of their neighbour, Saurabh Mhatre, at the Shubharambh Banquet Hall, located in Thane.
One of the police officials, while addressing the scenario, said that, “At around 11 am, when the bus reached near a metro pillar in Andheri East, the driver attempted to stop at a signal but lost control. The bus rammed directly into the pillar.”
