The bride sheds crocodile tears literally!

The mayor of San Pedro Huamelula in Mexico caught the Internet’s attention after marrying a female crocodile dressed in a wedding gown. Though this is as absurd as “the big day” can get, it’s deeply rooted in Mexican culture. The symbolic union is believed to bring prosperity, harmony, and strengthen ancestral ties within the community.

Similarly, two years ago, the then-mayor, Victor Hugo Sosa, performed this ritual, uttering the words, “I accept responsibility because we love each other. That is what is important. You can’t have a marriage without love… I yield to marriage with the princess girl.” Historically, this ritual began during the time of a Chontal king, now represented by the mayor, marrying a Huave princess, symbolised by an alligator-like creature. The ritual starts with parading the croc bride around the town, dressed in the wedding gown with the snout tied shut . After the ceremony, the mayor and bride dance to traditional music, commencing the union of two cultures.

Seas the day

21-year-old set a record as the first woman to set sail alone across Europe and SA

PIC/GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS

Twenty-one-year-old Zara Lachlan from the UK rowed all by herself across the ever-roaring ocean, making her way from Cayenne, French Guiana to the docks of Lagos, Portugal, setting the record of the first woman to row alone from Europe to South America. Relentlessly rowing her 24-foot boat eight months later, Zara etched her name in history as the first woman and the youngest person ever to complete this gruelling journey — and she did it entirely alone, with no support whatsoever. For 97 days, 10 hours, and 20 minutes, she pushed through exhaustion and solitude, spending up to 17 hours a day at the oars. “I just really enjoyed the whole experience. I thought I would be a lot more scared than I was,” she said to Guinness World Records. Talk about seas-ing the day, or rather, months.

Usually, summers were for mingling around at bars, hitting the beach every other day — but not this time… Gen Z is now ‘protecting their peace’ with Vows of Silence. This hush-hush trend has gained so much traction that people are now being wait-listed for these serene, sacred stays, as revealed in one woman’s TikTok that’s since gone viral. “Brat summer is out, vow of silence summer is in,” she says in the video. Nun of us saw that coming!

Glad to meet you!

Instagram loves PinkPantheress’s iconic intro to the song Illegal. The reel involves slowly shaking hands with someone, revealing a classic pairing or syncing up a scenario with the lyrics of the song.  An example goes with text similar to the one on the left, with the audio playing in the background saying “My name is Pink and I’m really glad to meet you. You were recommended to me by some  people,” and we’re here for it!

This story has a bone to it

Seafood lovers, beware of them bones. After devouring her fish soup, a Thai woman, Sang Lan, experienced a sharp pain in her neck after accidentally swallowing a bone. After getting it tested, the X-ray didn’t reveal any foreign objects. But multiple hospital visits later, the doctors finally managed to remove a 2-cm-long fish bone from the woman’s neck.

Flat and furious

Italian mechanic, Andrea Marazzi, spent 12 months building the world’s narrowest drivable car. At 50 centimetres wide, and only enough room for one driver, this car may look AI- generated but it is in fact a real creation. Marazzi claimed to have used 99% of the original parts of the Fiat, naming it the ‘Flat Fiat’. He now eagerly awaits his Guinness World Record.

Konichi-what? A BOT

PIC/NY POST

You’d usually expect a receptionist with a smile — now you get one with a power off and power on button and a dying battery, literally. At Henn na Hotel — roughly translating to ‘strange’ in Japanese — these humanoid hospitality bots are ironically unsettling. There we go, another human-centric job, crushed.
