In a horrific incident n Maharashtra`s Pune, a 6-year-old boy and his 8-year-old sister were killed and three others, including the duo`s younger sister, were injured after a bus climbed onto a footpath in Hinjewadi area on Monday evening.
A police official, while addressing the incident, said that the driver was allegedly drunk when the unfortunate accident happened. Furthermore, the police official from Hinjewadi Police Station also asserted that he has been arrested, as reported by news agency PTI.
While briefing more about the incident, he said that “A private firm`s bus on Monday evening drove onto a footpath and rammed into five pedestrians, including three siblings who were returning from school,” as quoted by PTI.
“While a 6-year-old boy and his 8-year-old sister died, their younger sister sustained critical injuries. Two other pedestrians were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment. The process of registering a case is underway,” the official added.
Seven killed, 20 injured in Pune-Bengaluru Highway crash
Earlier last month in November, a road accident on Navale Bridge along the Pune-Bengaluru Highway claimed at least seven lives and left over 20 others injured after a container truck lost control and rammed multiple vehicles, triggering a massive fire.
According to an official statement released by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) fire department, the control room received a call at 5:40 pm, reporting a major accident and fire at Navale Bridge. Fire tenders — a total of eight firefighting vehicles — were immediately dispatched.
News agency PTI further reported that, upon arrival at the site, firefighters found two container trucks and a car trapped between them, engulfed in flames. The teams swiftly began firefighting operations and brought the blaze under control after intense efforts.
Unfortunately, seven charred bodies, including two men from the container trucks and two men, two women, and a young girl from the car, were recovered from the site, confirmed PMC’s Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode. Four fire officers and about 40 personnel were engaged in the rescue and cooling operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that one of the container trucks suffered brake failure while heading towards Mumbai from Satara. The truck hit several vehicles — reportedly 20 to 25 — along a 2-km stretch.
