Why Priya Sachdev changed her name after late husband Sunjay Kapur`s death?

Priya Sachdev has modified her Instagram profile to reflect her new position at Sona Comstar, only days after being officially appointed to the board. The former model and entrepreneur are now named as a `non-executive director` of the auto parts company previously led by her late husband, Sunjay Kapur. Her Instagram handle has also changed—from Priya Sachdev Kapur to Priya Sunjay Kapur.

The decision comes shortly after Sunjay`s sudden death in a bizarre accident during a polo match in England, where he suffered a cardiac arrest after allegedly ingesting a bee. His last rites were held in New Delhi, attended by his ex-wife Karisma Kapoor. Since then, a highly public estate dispute has ensued, involving assets apparently worth thousands of crores.

Sunjay`s mother, Rani Kapur, wrote a letter to the company`s board, escalating tensions. In it, she said she was “compelled to sign various documents without explanation” and that “certain people” were attempting to represent themselves as the family`s voice. Although she didn’t name anyone directly, the timing and context suggest her remarks were aimed at Priya.

About Sunjay and Priya`s marriage

Sunjay and Priya got married in 2017. They have a son, Azarius, and Priya has a daughter, Safira, from her former marriage with Vikram Chatwal. Interestingly, Safira has erased her surname from her social media profiles and now only goes by her first name.

Prior to her marriage to Sunjay, Priya worked briefly in the entertainment industry, modelling in the early 2000s and featured in a cameo part in Neal `n` Nikki. Her divorce from Vikram Chatwal was completed in 2011 following a lengthy custody battle. Priya has led projects in automotive retail, insurance, fashion, and luxury e-commerce, including the establishment of Rock N Shop, one of India`s top shopping portals.

Karisma Kapoor dismissed the rumours of inheriting Sunjay`s assets

Karisma Kapoor, who was married to Sunjay Kapur from 2003 until 2016 and has two children with him, has reportedly kept a low profile and stayed away from all legal and corporate procedures. According to insiders, her primary concern is her children`s well-being and stability following their father`s death. A source close to Karisma Kapoor also dismissed the rumours of the actress demanding a share in the assets, “She is not involved in any inheritance or property-related matters in any way. The children are the rightful heirs and will receive what is due to them. Karisma`s focus right now is only the well-being of her children.”
