The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Jadhav has sparked political buzz after making remarks that suggested uncertainty about his future, even as he reaffirmed his loyalty to the party, reported the PTI.
Jadhav, a three-term Member of Parliament from Parbhani in Maharashtra’s Marathwada region, made the comments while speaking at an event.
Sanjay Jadhav said that it was not in his nature to betray those who had supported him politically, but added that he could not predict future circumstances.
He said, “I have always respected the party. I did it yesterday, am doing it today and will continue to do so even tomorrow. I have never betrayed those who made me big. This is not in my nature. But I can’t say the same about what will the circumstances be tomorrow,” according to the PTI.
Remarks on changing nature of politics
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also commented on how politics has changed, saying it is no longer driven by social work but increasingly influenced by economic considerations.
He added that even voters now tend to consider financial benefits while making electoral choices.
Defection speculation within Shiv Sena (UBT)
Since the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, there has been ongoing speculation about possible defections from the Shiv Sena (UBT) camp.
Party sources and political observers have suggested that several MPs could be exploring options, although no official confirmations have been made.
Shiv Sena (UBT) representation in Lok Sabha
The Shiv Sena (UBT) currently has eight Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha.
Jadhav’s remarks have therefore drawn attention, as any change in alignment could impact the party’s parliamentary strength.
Danve to be Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate MLC polls
Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has supported Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve for the upcoming Maharashtra legislative council (MLC) elections.
Nine members of the Upper House of the state legislature, including Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, are retiring on May 13, but the MVA alliance is in a position to win only one of the seats.
The Congress was keen on contesting the council polls but had shown willingness to support Uddhav Thackeray in case he contested.
The party is said to be upset over having to forgo a Rajya Sabha seat from Maharashtra last month as the opposition supported the candidature of NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar.
Danve, who hails from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, was the leader of opposition in the council from 2022 to 2025.
“I am the joint candidate of the MVA which comprises the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), Samajwadi Party and CPI(M),” he had earlier told reporters.
