Sunetra Pawar wins Baramati bypoll, dedicates victory to late husband Ajit Pawar

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister (CM) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sunetra Pawar on Monday expressed gratitude to the public after winning the by-election to the Baramati Assembly Constituency.

Speaking to the media, she said the people, through their votes, had expressed faith in late Deputy CM and her husband Ajit Pawar, who died in a tragic plane crash in Baramati in January.

“The public has shown their trust, love, and sympathy for Dada (Ajit Pawar) through this voting,” she said.

Sunetra Pawar also expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would form governments in West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry amid the ongoing counting of votes.

“NDA governments are coming to power in West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry,” she said.

Earlier in the day, Sunetra Pawar said the faith shown by the people of Baramati through their votes was dedicated to the sacred memory of the late Ajit Pawar.

Don`t take out victory rallies, Sunetra Pawar appeals to supporters

In a post on X, she said the announcement of the Baramati Assembly by-election results had brought back memories of Ajit Pawar, leaving many emotional. Appealing to party workers and supporters who admired him, she urged them not to take out victory rallies or throw gulal in celebration.

“Let us maintain restraint and conduct ourselves in a manner befitting his ideals,” she said.

According to a press release, Pawar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Baramati for giving her the opportunity to realise the former deputy chief minister’s vision for the constituency.

“This is not the end, but just the beginning of determination, struggle and a new Baramati,” she said.

She also assured the public that she remains committed to building the Baramati envisioned by Ajit Pawar.

Counting of votes was held in Karnataka, Nagaland, Gujarat and Maharashtra on Monday, where by-elections were conducted last month following the death of sitting MLAs.

The Baramati by-election was held on April 23 after the seat fell vacant following Ajit Pawar’s death in a plane crash earlier this year.

Earlier in the day, her son Jay Pawar also thanked voters for their faith in his mother and urged the supporters to refrain from celebrations once the result is declared.
