Transperson dies by suicide in Nagpur hospital after losing both legs in mishap

A 35-year-old transperson died by suicide at a government-run hospital in Nagpur on Thursday, nearly a month after losing both legs in a train accident, news agency PTI reported, quoting the police.

The victim was a resident of Maharashtra’s Amravati district. 

According to officers, she earned a livelihood by begging on trains. Last month, she reportedly fell from a moving train and sustained severe injuries, following which both her legs had to be amputated.

She was initially admitted to Irwin Hospital in Amravati and was later shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Nagpur for further treatment.

Police have registered an accidental death case and launched a probe into the incident.

An official from Ajni police station said, “The exact reason behind the suicide is not yet clear. Statements of persons concerned are being recorded, and further investigation is underway.”

20-year-old IIIT-Nagpur student ends life

A second-year engineering student of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)-Nagpur allegedly died by suicide on Monday, a police officer said.

The 20-year-old was a native of Kolhapur. His body was found in the campus around 4.30 am, the Butibori Police Station officer said.

“He was a second-year student of Computer Science Engineering (CSE). A case of accidental death has been registered. No suicide note was found from the spot. We are probing all angles, including personal and academic,” Assistant Inspector Nilesh Chaure said.

Disappointed over HSC scores, Class 12 student dies by suicide in Thane

A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Maharashtra`s Thane district, reportedly being distressed over scoring lower-than-expected marks in the Class 12 Maharashtra board examinations, news agency PTI reported, quoting the police on Monday. 

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, at her home in Bhiwandi city, an officer from Narpoli police station said.

According to initial investigation, the girl was unhappy with her marks after the results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations were declared on May 2. 

An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered at Narpoli police station, and further investigation is underway, PTI reported.
