The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on Monday approved its Rs 4,628.85 crore budget for the financial year 2026–27, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development and administrative reforms.
The approval came at the PMRDA`s 14th meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.
A key decision taken at the meeting was to delegate powers related to land disposal directly to the metropolitan commissioner to ensure faster and more efficient delivery of citizen services. This is expected to streamline processes such as plot allotment, transfers, inheritance entries, and issuance of no objection certificates (NOCs).

Infrastructure focus
The budget allocates the largest share— Rs 2,918.81 crore—to the engineering department for infrastructure and development works.
Major projects include the regional Ring Road, Metro Line-3 (Shivajinagar–Hinjewadi), road and bridge development, Katraj–Yerwada twin tunnel, Lonavala Skywalk, river rejuvenation projects (Pavana and Indrayani), urban growth clusters, tourism connectivity roads, and housing projects.
Key directions by CM
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed PMRDA to prepare a structural development plan for all villages within its jurisdiction within six months. He also proposed setting up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the Katraj–Yerwada twin tunnel project, with joint participation from PMRDA and the Pune Municipal Corporation.
He further instructed that development plans be prepared for 23 villages recently merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Administrative reforms
The delegation of powers under the Land Disposal Regulations, 2023, aims to simplify procedures and ensure timely service delivery under the Maharashtra Right to Public Services Act, 2015. The decision also grants retrospective approval to actions taken since June 11, 2021, following the merger of Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) with PMRDA.
Financial details
PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari presented the budget, stating that Rs 4,428.35 crore is expected from revenue sources and Rs 200.50 crore from capital receipts. The capital component includes Rs 100 crore each from the Centre and the District Planning Committee for the Lonavala Skywalk project.
A separate fire services fund has also been provisioned, with expected receipts of Rs 100.05 crore and expenditure of Rs 71.04 crore.
The meeting also discussed key regional projects including the proposed Purandar airport and the Inner Ring Road. With a marginal surplus and a heavy focus on infrastructure, the PMRDA budget for 2026–27 aims to accelerate urban development while improving governance and service delivery across the Pune metropolitan region.
