Luxury tax on large houses in Kerala garners ₹157 crore in five years

Luxury tax on residential buildings generated Rs 157.62 crore for the state exchequer over five years, with FY2025-26 alone contributing Rs 67.66 crore. Increased revenue is attributed to a growing number of large houses and intensified tax identification efforts. The tax applies to houses exceeding a prescribed area limit, with exemptions for smaller homes and rebates for advance payments.
