Tukaram Mundhe, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner, has been in the news recently and has become one of the most talked-about IAS officers in the country. Thanks to his surprise raids at several food outlets across the state, he has been making headlines for all the right reasons. Amid this, filmmaker Kunal Kohli has now shared a special message and request for the food safety officer. He asked Mundhe to extend his crackdown to Indian household kitchens as well.
Kunal Kohli has a request for Tukaram Mundhe
Kunal Kohli recently took to Instagram Stories to share a message for Tukaram Mundhe, wherein he jokingly suggested that the FDA commissioner should raid kitchens across Indian households. According to India.com, Kunal added that he is likely to find expired products in most kitchens.
The Hum Tum director wrote, “I request Tukaram Munde to raid kitchen shelves & refrigerators in Indian Households across the country. There will be expired items, from years ago, neatly and safely preserved, the bottles & packets wiped clean every month & put back on the shelf or refrigerator never to be used again.”
He further suggested that everyone should carry out what he referred to as a ‘Tukaram Munde cleaning’ of their homes themselves. “Chalo let’s do a Tukaram Munde cleaning of our kitchen shelves and refrigerators,” he added
FDA crackdown in Maharashtra
Notably, Kunal’s statement comes at a time when the Maharashtra FDA is on a spree to examine places where food is prepared and sold. This includes restaurants, hotels, roadside eateries and other food establishments across the state.
As part of the ongoing checks, the department has raided and suspended the licences of several well-known eateries in Mumbai. The FDA’s raids have brought to attention the food safety and hygiene standards at eateries and other establishments. The department has also been conducting inspections to identify violations of food safety rules and take action wherever the norms are found to have been flouted.
As part of its crackdown, the Maharashtra FDA has also issued show-cause notices to Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff over their advertisement for Vimal Elaichi, alleging that the advertisement campaign amounts to surrogate advertising for Vimal Pan Masala, which is banned in Maharashtra.
