Kunal Kemmu’s latest directorial venture, Vibe, has opened to a modest response at the box office. The comedy, which marks Kemmu’s second film as a director after Madgaon Express, earned an estimated Rs 1.50 crore net in India on its opening day, according to Sacnilk. The film recorded an India gross collection of Rs 1.80 crore.
Vibe opens at Rs 1.5 crore
Vibe hit theatres on Friday and registered an overall occupancy of 13.38 per cent across 3,194 shows. The film witnessed its strongest turnout during the night shows, when occupancy rose to 22.31 per cent. Morning shows recorded six per cent occupancy, followed by 11.31 per cent in the afternoon and 13.92 per cent during the evening.
Written, directed, produced and headlined by Kunal Kemmu, Vibe also stars Sparsh Shrivastava, Preity Zinta, Vanshika Dhir, Yashpal Sharma and Dinesh Lal Yadav in key roles. The film revolves around two clueless best friends who accidentally stumble upon a terrorist plot. Their discovery throws them into a series of chaotic situations, leading to an action-packed comedy of errors.
The film opened alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer Daayra, making the box-office clash particularly notable. On its opening day, Vibe recorded a higher collection than Daayra, which reportedly earned Rs 90 lakh net in India. However, the figures represent only the first day of their theatrical runs, and the films’ performances over the weekend and subsequent weekdays will determine their overall box-office trajectory.
Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 35 crore, Vibe will need substantial growth over the coming days to make a stronger impact theatrically. The opening-day numbers remain modest compared with the reported production cost, though a film’s first-day performance alone does not determine its eventual box-office outcome.
Kareena Kapoor Khan on the clash
The film has received a mixed response from audiences. While some viewers have found the comic premise and performances entertaining, others have pointed to the uneven writing and stretched second half.
Earlier, reacting to the clash between VIBE and Daayra, Kareena Kapoor had shared, “The gold will come to our home only, I am sure both our films will work very well. I will be very happy if they both do well.”
