Nana Patekar dies at 75: Son Malhar cries inconsolably at Goa hospital

Nana Patekar’s sudden demise has left the film fraternity and the nation in shock. The actor died in Goa at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest. After a post-mortem, his mortal remains will be taken to his Pune residence for his last rites. The veteran actor passed away when his family members were not present in Goa. Following his demise, his son, Malhar, arrived at a Goa hospital. 

Nana Patekar’s son breaks down

The actor was initially taken to Manipal Hospital in Goa’s Dona Paula, where he was declared dead. Since his death was a medico-legal case, his body was sent to Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination. Nana’s son Malhar was seen arriving at the GMC mortuary on Thursday afternoon.

Malhar first visited the Dona Paula Manipal Hospital before going to the GMC mortuary. As the only surviving son of the actor, Malhar was seen breaking down and crying inconsolably as he arrived at the hospital. He was seen being consoled by friends and other family members.

As per reports, the medical formalities are believed to be completed by afternoon, after which the actor’s mortal remains will be airlifted to Pune for his last rites, where he will be cremated with full state honours.

Nana Patekar’s final moments

Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, recalled the actor’s final moments before his death. He told ANI that the actor felt pain in the left side of his chest along with discomfort. He messaged a friend at around 2:30 AM; however, help came only at around 4 am.

The actor was found sweating and was slowly becoming unconscious. The doctor revealed that the actor’s caretaker was then sent to the hospital in an ambulance. The emergency team rushed to Patekar’s residence and started CPR after finding him completely unresponsive. The team tried to revive him by giving CPR for around 45 minutes to an hour after he was brought to the hospital.

Dr Salkar said, “When our ER team went there, they started cardiac massage because he was totally unresponsive. They shifted him to our hospital at around 4:20 or 4:30 am. We also tried our best, but he was brought dead.”

The doctor also revealed that Patekar’s family members were not present at the time of the incident. “His family was not there. His friends were there with him and a caretaker,” Dr Salkar said.
