Did you know? Nana Patekar's son Malhar once assisted Ram Gopal Varma

Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday, October 8, at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest in Goa. He was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula and was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at around 5:20 am. His son, Malhar, confirmed the news to local media.

While Nana Patekar spent decades in the limelight, his family had largely kept their lives private. Among them is his son Malhar, who stayed away from the public eye that followed his father.

Who is Malhar Patekar?

Malhar Patekar is Nana Patekar’s son with his wife, Neelakanti Patekar. Unlike his father, Malhar prefers to keep his life private and make rare public appearances. According to a report by News 18, the actor has been inclined towards filmmaking from a young age and eventually chose to work behind the scenes rather than venture into acting. Reports claim that he completed his primary education at Mumbai’s Saraswati Mandir High School and later did his graduation in commerce. He subsequently shifted towards filmmaking and worked as an assistant director.

Malhar has worked as an actor and a filmmaker

According to a report by Gulf News, Malhar worked as a child artist in Prahaar: The Final Attack (1991), a military drama that his father directed and starred in. He was also credited as an assistant director on Ram Gopal Varma’s The Attacks of 26/11. His second acting credit includes The Little Godfather, a 2014 Hindi film directed by Joy Augustine, where he featured in the supporting cast alongside Angad Bedi.

Malhar has occasionally been photographed with his father on different occasions, but unlike other star kids, he did not follow the conventional route of being launched as an actor in big-banner films. He generally avoids the glamour circuit despite being the son of one of India’s most influential actors.

Malhar was the first among family members to confirm Nana Patekar’s demise on Thursday morning. According to Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, the last rites of the veteran actor will be held at Patekar’s farmhouse in Donje village near Pune. Reports say the funeral is expected at around 4pm as per India time.
