CBFC clears Cocktail 2 with A rating, becomes Kriti Sanon`s first adult movie

As Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna’s Cocktail 2 continus to create buzz ahead of its much-awaited release, the film has now passed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) process. Directed by Homi Adajania, the film revolves around a complex relationship between Kunal, Ally and Diya as they navigate friendship and love. Ahead of the film`s release in theatres on June 19, the CBFC has cleared the film with an ‘A’ rated certificate.

Cocktail 2 cleared with `A` certificate

As per the ticketing app, BookMyShow, Cocktail 2 has been granted an adult certificate by the censor board. Meanwhile, the runtime of the film has been reportedly locked at 2 hours and 30 minutes.

With this, Cocktail 2 becomes the first-ever adult-rated film in Kriti Sanon’s 12-year career. On the other hand, for Rashmika Mandanna, it becomes her second ‘A’-rated Hindi film after the blockbuster Animal (2023) co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Bobby Deol.

For Shahid Kapoor, Cocktail 2 becomes the fifth adult-rated film of his career after Kaminey (2009), Udta Punjab (2016), Kabir Singh (2019) and O`Romeo (2026). Notably, Vishal Bhardwaj`s O`Romeo was also his last release, which implies that for the first time in his career, Shahid has two consecutive adult-rated films.

About Cocktail 2

The first installment of Cocktail, which released in 2012, starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and debutante Diana Penty. Cocktail was also directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. However, unlike the upcoming sequel, the first installment had received a U/A certificate from the CBFC. It had a runtime of 146 minutes, that is roughly two hours and 26 minutes making it four minutes shorter than Cocktail 2.

The seconf installment revolves around a love triangle between the three leads, with Shahid`s character having to choose between the two women. According to reports, Shahid is believed to be the highest-paid actor among the three. He was reportedly paid a fee of Rs 35 crore for Cocktail 2. On the other hand, Kriti and Rashmika, who play Ally and Diya in the film, walked home with a paycheque of Rs 15 crore each.
