Kangana Ranaut heaps praise on Deepika Padukone after criticizing her for years

Kangana Ranaut has surprised many with her latest comments about Deepika Padukone. Despite criticising the actress and some of her films in the past, Kangana recently praised Deepika, calling her irreplaceable. The actress also reflected on the legacy of iconic female stars across generations and spoke against the growing culture of negativity.

Kangana Ranaut praises Deepika Padukone

In an interview with Entertainment Live, Kangana revealed she has learnt a lot from Deepika. She went on to slam the toxic culture of negativity in Bollywood. “The kind of negativity that I see around me now, especially in the younger generation… So much negativity is not good. This is toxic. We need to eradicate it consciously,” she said. She was also asked why there hasn’t been another actress like her in the Hindi film industry. To this, she praised veteran actresses and shared how they have left a mark.

Kangana stated, “We often think that actresses come and go. But that isn’t true. There can never be another Meena Kumari. In fact, I was thinking that there can never be another Karisma Kapoor either. Every era has its own icons—whether it’s Hema Malini ji, Waheeda Rehman, or Madhubala, who is simply irreplaceable. Each generation has certain faces that can never be replaced. There will never be another Madhuri Dixit. And I’m not just talking about myself. I feel there will never be another Deepika Padukone either.”

She added, “Every era has its own identity, and we represent that era. One thing is certain, though: Madhuri ji is still doing so much work, and people are gradually beginning to realise this. It is happening because audiences continue to enjoy watching her work even today. Otherwise, people would simply say, ‘No, no, move her aside and bring in new actresses.’ Some artists are rare phenomena; they are not going to happen a second time.”

When Kangana criticised Deepika

But in 2025, while promoting her film Emergency, Kangana took a dig at Deepika’s role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. Kangana had called Deepika’s film Gehraiyaan “trash” and criticised the film in an Instagram story.
