Pune to Varanasi gets Amrit Bharat train, Jabalpur service made permanent

In a major boost for rail connectivity, two important train services linking Pune with North India have been approved.

A new ‘Amrit Bharat’ Express will operate between Hadapsar (Pune) and Varanasi (Banaras), offering faster and more direct travel for passengers heading to Kashi and Prayagraj.

Every year, a large number of devotees from Pune travel to these religious destinations. The introduction of this train is expected to make their journey more convenient and comfortable.

The train will originate from Hadapsar Terminal, which is also likely to ease congestion at Pune Railway Station.

Pune–Jabalpur Train to Run Regularly

The Pune-Jabalpur special train (02131/02132) will now be converted into a regular service.

New numbers: 20161 / 20162
New name: Pune–Jabalpur Express

With this change, passengers will be able to book tickets well in advance throughout the year. Ticket fares are also expected to be lower compared to those of special trains.

Why This Matters

– Direct train connectivity to Varanasi for devotees and travellers
– Improved access to Prayagraj and other parts of North India
– Reduced congestion at Pune Railway Station
– Better booking availability and more stable ticket pricing
– Boost to tourism, business, and regional connectivity

The official timetable is expected to be announced soon, and both trains are likely to commence operations shortly.

Official Statement

Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol said the long-pending demand for improved rail connectivity between Pune and North India has finally been addressed. He added that the new services will benefit a large number of passengers, particularly those travelling for pilgrimage.
