Reflecting on their bond, Myieshaa wrote about the many ways she sees her grandmother’s presence in her own life.
“Dadi, it’s only now that I’m beginning to realise just how much of you lives in me. I hear you in the way I sing. Music was such a huge part of your life, and somehow, that love found its way into mine too. I think that’s one of the most precious gifts you’ve given me — something of yours that I get to carry with me.”
She continued, “I hear you in my laugh too. That big, loud laugh that you could never really hide, and apparently, neither can I. I see you in the way I tell stories — the animated expressions, the unnecessary details and little tangents that somehow become the best part. I see you in the way I care for the people I love, especially when I’m cooking. You were always happiest feeding all of us, and I think I’ve inherited that same joy.”
She concluded, “I think that’s what I’ll hold onto most — all the little pieces of you that are now a part of me. I hope I can honour every one of them and make you proud in the years to come. Until we meet again, Dadi. Love you.”
