Watch: Haridwar locals protest against `Bar` sign at Emraan Hashmi’s film set

Actor Emraan Hashmi is currently in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, shooting for his upcoming project. However, the shoot has landed in controversy after the film set reportedly sparked objections from local residents. The dispute allegedly broke out over a signboard featuring the word “Bar,” which some residents felt was inappropriate for the holy city. While Emraan was not present at the location, team members managed to calm the situation.

According to reports, the controversy erupted after the film`s team allegedly set up a mock restaurant at the shooting location with a signboard that read “Cafe & Bar.” The signage reportedly upset several local residents, and they started having a heated argument with the movie`s team. The residents objected to the use of the word “Bar” in Haridwar, a city revered for its religious and spiritual significance.

Videos circulating online show security personnel and a member of the production team attempting to pacify the agitated crowd. Hashmi was reportedly not present at the location when the confrontation took place.

Emraan Hashmi`s upcoming movies

Emraan was last seen in Netflix’s Taskaree, where he played the role of a customs officer. He also left a mark with his small stint as an intimacy coach in Aryan Khan’s The Bads of Bollywood. Up next, he is gearing up for Awarapan 2. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the sequel aims to build on the emotional depth of the original while introducing a fresh cinematic approach. Disha Patani will also play a prominent role in the film.

The film will release on August 14. Notably, it will witness a clash with Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947. A few days ago, the film`s team revealed that they had wrapped up shooting. The actor will also be seen stepping into an action role for the sequel to 2018’s Goodachari, which is scheduled for a summer 2026 release. While Adivi Sesh is returning as Agent Gopi, the film stars Wamiqa Gabbi as the leading lady.

He is also a part of Gunmaaster G9. It is expected to be a tribute to the era of unapologetic Bollywood masala cinema. Gunmaaster G9 features an ensemble cast that includes Genelia D’Souza, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Singh.
