Nearly 47 lakh domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinders were delivered across India in a single day, closely matching bookings of about 47.4 lakh, the government said on Saturday, asserting that there is no disruption in supply despite geopolitical tensions in West Asia, reported IANS.
Supply meets demand despite global concerns
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, LPG deliveries have remained stable even as concerns grew over the Strait of Hormuz situation. Officials said online bookings reached 99 per cent of total demand, indicating a smooth and responsive distribution network, reported IANS.
The government also confirmed that no shortages or “dry-outs” have been reported at LPG distributorships across the country.
Measures in place to ensure uninterrupted energy supply
Authorities said multiple steps are being taken to maintain energy security, maritime operations and support for Indian nationals amid the evolving situation in West Asia. The Centre reiterated its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability across the country, reported IANS.
Crackdown on hoarding and black marketing
To prevent misuse and ensure fair distribution, enforcement agencies have intensified action against hoarding and black marketing. The ministry said over 1,900 raids have been conducted nationwide to curb illegal activities related to LPG distribution.
Officials noted that these steps are aimed at maintaining transparency and ensuring that supplies reach consumers without disruption.
Expansion of gas infrastructure and outreach efforts
The government also highlighted progress in expanding gas infrastructure. Since March, more than 6.04 lakh piped natural gas connections have been activated, while infrastructure has been created for an additional 2.68 lakh connections, taking the total to 8.72 lakh, reported IANS.
Public sector oil marketing companies have conducted over 10,100 awareness camps since early April, promoting the use of smaller 5 kg cylinders. Around 1.75 lakh such cylinders have been sold during this period, including more than 3,700 units sold through over 130 camps in a single day.
LPG tanker en route to India safely
Providing an update on international supply lines, the government said the LPG carrier MT Sarv Shakti is sailing safely through the Persian Gulf. The vessel, carrying over 46,000 tonnes of LPG, is expected to reach Visakhapatnam on May 13, reported IANS.
According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the Marshall Islands-flagged ship has a crew of 20, including 18 Indian nationals.
With supply chains functioning smoothly and enforcement measures in place, officials said India’s LPG distribution system remains resilient despite ongoing global uncertainties.
