The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is set to form the government in Kerala after securing a clear lead in the Assembly elections 2026.
According to data from the Election Commission of India, the alliance is leading or has won in more than 95 seats in the 140-member House, indicating a comfortable majority, reported the PTI.
Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra thanked the people of Kerala for their strong support.
In a post on X, she said the trust shown by voters would guide the UDF in working towards a better future.
She added that the party would strive to fulfil its commitments with honesty and humility over the next five years.
Priyanka Gandhi, who represents Wayanad in Parliament, also highlighted the alliance’s performance in the district.
She said the UDF had secured all seven Assembly seats in Wayanad, calling it a “resounding mandate” and assuring that multiple representatives would work together for the region’s development.
Praise for party workers
The Congress leader also congratulated UDF workers and leaders for their efforts during the campaign that contributed to the victory in the elections.
She said their hard work in reaching out to voters and promoting a message of unity and progress played a key role in the alliance’s success.
The UDF’s victory marks a significant political shift in Kerala, where the Left Democratic Front (LDF) has been in power for the past decade.
With the latest results, the UDF appears set to return to power, signalling a change in the state’s political landscape.
BJP makes historic gains in Kerala
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved its best-ever performance in Kerala by winning three Assembly seats, marking a significant breakthrough in a state traditionally dominated by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF), according to the IANS.
The party capped its performance with a dramatic last-round victory in Kazhakootam.
Former Union Minister V Muraleedharan defeated CPI(M) leader Kadakampally Surendran by a narrow margin of just 265 votes.
The contest remained closely fought throughout the counting process, with multiple lead changes before Muraleedharan pulled ahead in the final round.
