Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Saturday appointed TVK chief C Joseph Vijay as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
After VCK and IUML extended support to TVK, actor-politician Vijay called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan (Lok Bhavan) and submitted letters of unconditional support from the supporting parties. He was accompanied by TNCC chief K Selvaperunthagai, CPI(M) State Secretary P Shanmugam and other leaders.
With the backing of VCK and IUML (two seats each), the TVK’s strength has now reached 120 in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.
The Governor has invited Vijay to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony of the Council of Ministers led by Vijay will be held in Chennai on Sunday at 10 AM.
This was the fourth time Vijay met the Governor to stake claim to form the government.
TVK workers burst firecrackers, distributed sweets and celebrated in large numbers outside the party office.
