Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Saturday appointed TVK chief C Joseph Vijay as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and and the leader will take oath on Sunday, the Lok Bhavan said. This comes after VCK and IUML extended unconditional support to TVK, taking his tally to 121 MLAs — three more than the 118 needed for a majority Assembly.
The development ends four days of intense political negotiations after TVK upstaged DMK and AIADMK in the elections.
However, AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran accused TVK of securing a majority through “horse-trading”, alleging that a letter purportedly signed by AMMK’s lone MLA-designate S Kamaraj pledging support to TVK was forged. “I suspect that the TVK, in a desperate bid to form the government, as it lacked the majority, might have indulged in horse-trading,” Dhinakaran alleged, adding that his party had lodged a formal complaint with Guindy police. Kamaraj backed Dhinakaran’s charge. “They did not contact me. It is a fake,” he said.
TVK denied the allegations, releasing a video showing Kamaraj signing the letter.
