A 30-year-old autorickshaw driver was critically injured after being attacked with a machete in broad daylight. The victim, after being attacked, fell off a bridge on the Katraj-Narhe road in Pune city of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday, reported the PTI.
Following the incident, the police officials said that so far three persons have been arrested in the case.
According to the PTI, a video of the incident, which took place on a bridge above the Rajmata underground passage at around 10:15 am on Monday, went viral.
The video showed the assailants repeatedly attacking the victim, identified as Suraj Manik Kale. During the attack, Kale lost balance and fell off the bridge onto the road below, sustaining severe injuries.
According to police, Kale was attacked by Bapu Bhosale, Ganesh More and Ganesh Dharpale over an old dispute related to picking up passengers.
A police official, while briefing about the incident, said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that Kale had a dispute with the accused two to three years ago over ferrying passengers. The accused have been holding a grudge against him since then,” as per PTI.
The officials further asserted that the fall from the bridge possibly saved him from further assault.
Soon after the incident, Kale was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatments. As per the officials, his condition is stated to be stable as of now.
After arresting the three accused, the officials have registered a case against them under relevant sections of BNS. Officials further asserted that the investigation in this case is still underway.
Chembur man dies in hit-and-run after autorickshaw makes sudden U-turn
In a separate incident on Monday, a 32-year-old man from Chembur died in a hit-and-run accident in Mulund East in Mumbai after an autorickshaw allegedly made a sudden wrong U-turn and collided with his motorcycle near the Airoli Bridge, official said.
The deceased was identified as Mital Patil, a restaurant manager who lived in Chembur with his elder brother Karan (35), a civil engineer.
According to Navghar police, the incident took place around 1:15 pm when Patil was riding his motorcycle towards Thane via the Airoli Bridge. An unidentified autorickshaw allegedly took a sudden wrong U-turn on Navghar Road and hit his bike.
