Following the super success of the Dhurandhar franchise, working with filmmaker Aditya Dhar has been on everyone’s list. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Thursday made a revelation that they have approached the ace director to direct a big-budget biopic on the legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan.
Aditya Dhar approached to direct Lachit Borphukan biopic
During a Facebook live, the Assam CM revealed that Aditya Dhar has been approached with the project and added that in August, he will personally meet Dhar for further discussions.
However, he went on to clarify that if Dhar is not able to direct the film, they will approach other filmmakers. He said, “If Aditya Dhar is unable to direct the film, we will approach other directors. The objective is to ensure that a grand biopic on Lachit Borphukan is made.”
The CM expressed his wish to bring the life and legacy of Borphukan to a national and international audience through a Bollywood-scale production. It will be interesting to see if Dhar comes on board to direct the biopic or not.
For the unversed, Lachit Borphukan was a legendary military commander of the Ahom Kingdom in medieval Assam. The commander is known for his fearless leadership during the 1671 Battle of Saraighat, wherein his strategies helped defeat an overwhelmingly superior Mughal army. He helped in permanently halting their expansion into Northeast India. Lachit Borphukan was born in 1622 and died in 1672.
Aditya Dhar’s work front
Aditya Dhar shot to fame with his directorial debut, Uri: The Surgical Strike, starring Vicky Kaushal, in 2019. He then created history in Indian cinema with his duology, Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, in 2025 and 2026, respectively. The film starring Ranveer Singh went on to become the highest-grossing film in Indian cinema, earning over Rs 1300 crore.
Although Dhar has not yet officially announced which movie he will direct next, there have been multiple reports that he is planning to direct a film featuring Dhurandhar actor Ranveer Singh. The film is reportedly based on the life of Chandragupta Maurya. Meanwhile, some reports suggest Dhar will be teaming up with Prabhas. However, there is no official confirmation so far.
