New ideas and concepts have been buzzing around in Anubhav Sinha’s head ever since his last directorial venture, Assi, released in February. Now, as the Taapsee Pannu-starrer has begun streaming on Zee5, the director has moved on to narrowing down ideas for his next. “I have written two stories so far and am starting the third one.
Then I am going for a chhutti, where I will write my fourth,” he told mid-day.

Though he remained tight-lipped about these ideas, Sinha shared there are some concepts that call out to him every now and then. For starters, an action film. “I keep getting attracted every now and then to make a cool action film,” said the director, who had attempted the genre with Dus (2005).
Historical dramas are another genre that interests him. It’s not surprising, given India’s rich and diverse history. “There are so many films I want to make set in India of the 1940s. It was an outstanding phase. I finished reading The Case for India by Will Durant, who visited the country in the 1930s. It’s a beautiful book. After finishing it, I thought to myself, ‘There are so many films in this’,” he shared.
Where’s the love?
Anubhav Sinha had made his directorial debut with ‘Tum Bin’ (2001). After that, he rarely explored love stories. Admitting that he toys with the idea of making a romantic drama, the filmmaker emphasised, “Where is love in our society? I don’t see it these days. Girls ask me, ‘Where are the men, sir?’ I don’t see my assistants in office telling me, ‘Sir, I have a date.’”
