Singer Kanika Kapoor has confirmed her separation from husband Gautam after four years of marriage, requesting privacy as they part ways. Kanika Kapoor confirms separation

On Tuesday, Kanika took to Instagram to confirm her separation. She wrote, “Dear friends and family, after much thought and consideration, my husband and I are going our separate ways. I am grateful for the time we shared and wish him well for the future. I sincerely ask for kindness and respect for our privacy as we move forward.”

She has not publicly revealed the reason she and Gautam chose to separate. Kanika has also removed all the photos featuring Gautam from her social media profiles.

According to a Mumbai Mirror report, differences in work commitments and travel schedules reportedly led to disappointment, with the singer frequently travelling while the businessman was unable to leave Lagos due to professional obligations.

Speaking to the news portal, Kapoor said, “I have not found anybody else and to the best of my knowledge, neither has Gautam. For me, this is my second time for a divorce and that brings its own grief and disappointment.”

She added, “To say that I did not want to stay in Lagos is not true and it’s so typical – that when a marriage falls apart, the first person to be blamed is the woman – which is unfair. Only two people in a marriage know what exactly transpires between them.”

More about Kanika’s marriages

Kanika had earlier revealed that she had known Gautam for nearly 15 years and that they were close friends before their relationship turned romantic. Gautam eventually proposed to her in August 2021, and the couple tied the knot on May 20, 2022, in an intimate yet lavish ceremony in London.

Kanika was previously married to London-based general practitioner Dr Jaspreet Singh Chandok, with whom she has three children. The singer married him in 1998, when she was just 18 years old. They divorced in 2012.

For the unversed, Kanika is known for her songs Baby Doll, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, Tukur Tukur and Genda Phool.
