No LPG shortage in India: Centre assures 100 per cent supply to households

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Wednesday assured that there is no shortage of domestic cooking LPG in the country despite the ongoing West Asia crisis impacting imports.

Joint Secretary in the Ministry, Sujata Sharma, said the government is making every effort to ensure uninterrupted supply, especially for household consumers.

“Due to the West Asia crisis, our imports have been affected, whether it is LPG, crude oil, or natural gas. However, the Government of India is making every effort to ensure 100 per cent domestic supply of LPG to household consumers for cooking purposes. At the same time, efforts are being made to supply up to 70 per cent to commercial users as well,” Sharma said.

She further stated that no dry-out has been reported at any LPG distributor.

According to the ministry, approximately 95 per cent of booked LPG cylinders are being delivered. In the last two days alone, 87,28,000 LPG cylinders were delivered against 88,82,000 bookings.

The assurance comes amid concerns over global supply disruptions due to the situation in West Asia. The government has prioritised domestic cooking gas to ensure that common households do not face any inconvenience for daily cooking needs.
